Creative Writing Workshop:Cookies & Characters

Cookies & Characters: Come take part in Newtown Literary's Fifth Annual Queens Writes Weekend as we spend the afternoon getting to know your characters outside the world of your story. All while enjoying a cookie (or 3)! What would happen if you went with your protagonist for mani-pedis, or got stuck in an elevator with your bad guy? Through a mixture of discussion and fun writing prompts, we'll uncover surprising things about the characters you've imagined and collaborate to create new ones.

$10 suggested contribution. (All proceeds from this month's class will go directly to Newtown Literary.) BYO pen & paper. Cookies provided!

Instructor Kelly Jean Fitzsimmons is an award-winning essayist, playwright, and an adjunct writing instructor at York College. She also produces No, YOU Tell It! (www.noyoutellit.com) - a reading series that "switches-up" the storytelling. Each NYTI storyteller writes a true-life tale and then flips scripts with a partner to present each other's story. Contact her at noyoutellit@gmail.com.
